Comparing Countertop Materials

Quartz vs. marble vs. quartzite — durability, maintenance and look.

Choosing a countertop is a balance of look, durability and maintenance. Here's how the leading materials compare for a real, used-every-day kitchen.

What's involved

  • Durability and heat resistance
  • Maintenance and sealing
  • Cost and value
  • Best uses for each material

How we approach it

We walk the stone yard with you to choose the exact slab, template digitally for tight seams, then fabricate and install full-slab countertops, waterfall islands and backsplashes so the best veining lands where you'll see it.

Countertop Materials Compared is part of our countertops & stone service. Because design and construction live under one roof, this work is coordinated by one accountable team — so the finished result matches the renderings, down to the hardware. Book a consultation to talk through your project.

Questions

Countertops & Stone — frequently asked

Which is better, quartz or quartzite?

Quartz is engineered, non-porous and virtually maintenance-free. Quartzite is natural stone with marble-like movement and excellent hardness, but needs periodic sealing. We help you pick based on how you cook.

Can I get a waterfall island?

Absolutely. We fabricate full-slab waterfall islands with book-matched, mitered edges so the veining flows continuously down the sides.

Do you help choose the actual slab?

Yes — we walk the stone yard with you so you choose the exact slab and veining, then template around it so the best movement lands where you'll see it.
